Halleluiah I'm Free!

My senior thesis is complete. The culmination of 4 years of work... All presented today.

I feel light... free... fluffy....

I haven't gotten any exercise recently. I have been too busy spending time hunched over my computer with a Glorious spring of Dr. Pepper and Endless music by the Weepies.

I also gained an addiction to coffee. There's no turning back now.

Anyhow, not much else has been going on in my life. But I have some pictures from camping and of the day we got snowed in....

Basic Facts

Today during my tutoring shift, I encountered someone who seemed to be lacking what I think are essentials to any college student, especially one taking science classes. I was just curious to know if other people know these things, so I am going to give you a little test. Just leave your answers in the comments, and I will give you the answers and results in the next post.

Please answer these questions with no help, so I will have accurate results - Closed notes, closed book, closed search engine (Don't use google). I suppose you can use a calculator.

1. What is the acceleration of gravity on Earth, also called g?

2. Solve for x:
12 = 0.5x + 4

3. If you have an equation in which one side has the square root of x, what must you do to the equation to find x? example:
5 = sqrt(x) (Imagine the sqrt is the little number house thing)

4. If you are driving to your Auntie's house in Bethany (or Piedmont), how long will it take to get there if you are driving 35 mph (The roads are icy, and she has your supply of chocolate)? At the beginning of your one-way trip, the odometer reads 153,243 miles, and at the end it reads 153,267 miles. Assume you don't have to stop or change speeds. Please report your time in minutes and hours.

5. You and your family are soaking up the sun on a beach in Mexico, and you get to wondering... You know if you went out into the water, you would be on the continental shelf and that the water is about 180m deep. If an ocean wave is a deep wave if the water depth is greater than 1/2 the wavelength, and it is a shallow wave if the water depth is less than 1/20 the wavelength, is a wind wave with a wavelength of 20 m a deep or shallow wave? What about a tsunami wave with a wavelength of 300m?

Neuroses

During my shift in the Geology tutoring room on Monday, a girl came in for help with homework. She had completed most of it already, in black pen. She then picked up a blue pen and continued writing. When it came time to graph, she dug out her pencil. What the heck. How am I supposed to concentrate on helping when the words are in different colors/media?! I absolutely have to have pens of the same color in my bag, or I get distracted.

Because its 12:40 and I am exhausted but had coffee not long ago, I took pictures of my lab-notebook neuroses. And of my non-neurotic cleaning habits.

Summer

I just ate my first juicy strawberries of the season. They were absolutely delicious.

Even though summer is usually associated with bad things in my head, like sunburns, sweating, shorts, and really long trips in the car, I love summer because with it comes fresh fruit.

I will be a frequent visitor to the Boulder Farmer's market this semester.

I will also have a freaking awesome sock tan from doing field work in May.

Hurrah.

Countdown

I am T minus 3 weeks until my senior project is due. And my life resumes. I still haven't gotten my code to work, and I have a lot to write. It will be fun. Think of me, think of me fondly, when you say goodnight, or at least when you think of sea ice, or maps, or stress, or lots of writing, or macaroni and cheese.

Because that is what I eat. All the time. Mmmmm. I particularly like the spongebob shaped mac'n'cheese.

Diana and I launched into a hearty round of "Are ya ready kids? AYE AYE Captain!"

I love living at my house. The people there are awesome.

and just so everyone knows, I did have a backup pair of tweezers. They aren't my fancy-schmancy Tweezermans, but they'll do, pig.

I need food. I'm starting to hallucinate.

I. Dropped. My. Tweezers.

Now they have a huge bend in the tip, rendering them useless. And I have furry eyebrows.

I don't see this going well.

If I grow a unibrow, please don't make fun of me. I can't help it.

Good advice? Eh....

I suppose.

I like to toss out my crazy in large doses. If I know you.

If not, I keep the crazy in, but laugh at my own jokes a little.

It's a social skill I've learned. My crazies scare people.

However, my guess is that if you are reading this you know me well enough to understand me.

Or at least just smile and nod and walk slooooowwwly away.
